Vasse Primary’s BRIDGE Partnership with Sekolah Fastabiql Khairat (S.F.K.) in Indonesia was strengthened when Ibu Jackie visited Samarinda, East Kalimantan, during school holidays. She collaborated with Ibu Winna and Ibu Rinda, who had previously visited Vasse. Ibu Jackie met school principals, education officials, teachers, and students, exchanging gifts such as a football, uniforms, and local books. She also brought back traditional Dyak food, costumes, and school uniform examples.
During her visit, Ibu Jackie shared photos of Australia, animals, and daily life, engaging students with videos on playing football, making fairy bread, and Vegemite on toast. Students showed her their exercise routines and compost practices, while teachers taught her how to make gorengan (fried snacks). The S.F.K. English Club welcomed Ibu Jackie with a traditional dance, costumes, and a live interview, with banners displaying warm greetings.
She also visited Samboja Lestari, an orangutan rescue centre, and toured eco-projects in Jakarta, including Bumi Journey, a mangrove regeneration site, the Australian Embassy, and Istiqlal Mosque. Vasse Primary is grateful to S.F.K. for hosting Ibu Jackie, who now has resourceful stories and items for her Indonesian lessons.
This trip was supported by the BRIDGE School Partnerships Program, funded by the Australian Government and managed by the Asia Education Foundation. Vasse Primary looks forward to strengthening ties through video projects and messages, fostering intercultural understanding, empathy, and enthusiasm for learning Indonesian.
