This year, as Early Childhood Leaders, Kailla, Sarah, and I (Charmaine) embarked on a journey to strengthen the foundation of our Early Years philosophy at Vasse Primary School. We began by recognising a clear need for an Early Years Vision Statement that would unite our K–2 team and guide our decisions, ensuring a balance between explicit instruction and play-based learning.
Working alongside admin and our dedicated K–2 teachers and education assistants, we collaborated to define what Early Years at Vasse should look, sound, and feel like. Through these discussions, and by aligning our work with the NQS and EYLF, we developed a shared vision built on consistency, connection, and purpose.
Our learning extended beyond the school gates. We visited other schools, observed inspiring practice, and attended professional learning that deepened our understanding of leadership and collaboration. Together, we embraced distributed leadership, empowering every educator to take ownership of our shared goals.
Our journey culminated in the launch of the Vasse Early Years Vision Statement, proudly presented to staff and leadership. But this is just the beginning. We’re continuing to embed our vision through consistent K–2 timetables, enriched outdoor learning spaces, and plans to further develop literacy and numeracy play zones.
We’re grateful to our admin and colleagues for their support in helping us grow as leaders and for fostering a strong, united vision for the Early Years at Vasse.
