Middle (Year 3 – 4)

Year 3 and 4 classrooms focus on providing a vibrant and dynamic learning environment that explicitly teaches the skills to access the curriculum. Inquiry learning is also a feature, developing students’ critical and creative thinking skills.

Teachers deliver well-planned learning experiences using contemporary pedagogy and teaching strategies to encompass all areas of the WA Curriculum. The teaching and learning program includes:

  • Promoting Literacy Development (PLD).

Inquiry Learning

All learning is related to understanding and practicing skills related to a concept, sometimes we become distracted in the content that surrounds the concept when it is presented.

The key to any inquiry is to recognise the concept you are exploring and consistently check your learning back to this concept. As learners we can be distracted by our personal interest paths and bias’s. These distractions can lead us deeper into understanding the concept, but often lead us away if we don’t remain focused.

The C Inquiry is a process that provides the learner with a framework to explore a concept; big or small. It is broken down into 5 key areas:

  • Connect
  • Clarify
  • Combine
  • Create
  • Communicate

The sixth and seventh unwritten C’s are Courage and Commitment.
