Maths Fun and a place at the Numero Challenge

Vasse Primary School proudly participated in their first AFG Interschool Primary Numero Challenge on Monday 20th October 2025, hosted at Bunbury Primary School.  Eight Year 5 students were selected to represent the school in two groups of four, the Vasse Calculus Kids and Vasse Numerologists.

Accompanied by Helen Grigorakis, Year 5 teacher, they displayed outstanding enthusiasm and Vasse values throughout the day.  While we were advised not to expect a placing, we are thrilled to report that the Vasse Calculus Kids placed 6th, and the Vasse Numerologists achieved a respectable 12th.  What a fantastic result! Congratulations to all participating students and a big thank you to the teachers for their support and commitment to teaching Numero.

Numero is an engaging card game designed to enhance numeracy and problem-solving skills across all age groups. At Vasse PS, it has been introduced as a tool to support maths fluency and challenge our top-performing mathematicians. Each Year 5 and 6 class now has a set of Numero cards, and the enthusiasm is spreading schoolwide.  Teachers from other year levels are learning the game and teaching their cohort with students joining the Tuesday lunchtime Numero club.
