At Vasse PS, students in Year 3 – 6 are taught Bahasa Indonesia for 45mins a week, by our specialist language teacher. Our dynamic, rich and engaging language program focuses on developing the oral and written communication skills of students and intercultural understanding and respect. Students are given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills across a range of activities to include; explicit teaching of the skills required for second language acquisition, oral language practice, songs, music, games, role play, cultural art activities, cooking, incursions, performances and reading and writing short sentences. Learning a second language has many benefits for students. According to the Education Department it enhances literacy skills, improves memory and brain function, helps develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, fosters respect and understanding of other cultures, improves overall performance at school, creates employment and career opportunities and enhances travel experiences. Our Indonesian teacher, Bu Tucker has spent several years living, studying, traveling and working in Indonesia. She loves the language and culture of Indonesia and is dedicated to sharing her knowledge with the students to foster a supportive and fun language learning experience.
