At Vasse PS, Harmony Week has been a time of reflection, creativity, and connection as students explored the themes of unity, diversity, and inclusion. Here’s a peek at some of the exciting activities that have taken place in our classrooms!
Colourful Handprints and ‘Walk and Talk’
In Room 19, the students dove into a world of colour and creativity! They made vibrant handprints, decorated flowers, and painted the world, which were proudly displayed in their classroom window. The fun continued with a heartwarming ‘Walk and Talk’ with the rest of the school, where students could connect and celebrate the beauty of their unique cultures. It was a wonderful afternoon full of joy and community spirit!

Harmony Week Tapestry
In Room 29, students explored the power of unity through a beautiful project inspired by a quote from Maya Angelou, the renowned poet, writer, and civil rights activist. The quote, “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter their colour,” resonated deeply with the class. Students wove their own paper tapestry templates, symbolizing how individual strengths come together to form a united whole. This visual representation of diversity was a powerful reminder of how our differences make us stronger.

Creating Yarning Sticks
As part of their ongoing exploration of culture and storytelling, Room 29 students also crafted Indigenous ‘Yarning Sticks.’ Using raffia and coloured wool, the students created beautiful, meaningful sticks, which serve as symbols of connection and sharing stories. The activity deepened their understanding of Indigenous traditions and the importance of listening and learning from one another.
Sharing Family Stories and Creating Harmony Hands
In Room 4, Harmony Day was celebrated by sharing personal stories about family beliefs and culture. Students traced their hands and within each hand, drew a self-portrait. They then chose two colours to decorate their hands, symbolizing harmony and balance. This creative activity helped the children reflect on how they can be in harmony with others while celebrating their own uniqueness.

In conclusion
Harmony Week has been an incredible journey of self-expression, connection, and mutual respect. It’s been inspiring to watch our students come together to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures within our school. We look forward to seeing these values continue to grow as our students develop into thoughtful, inclusive individuals.
