Josh Yates - Sw Volunteer Of The Year 1

Vasse Primary School is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Josh Yates, who has been named the South West Learning Support Volunteer of the Year at the annual EdConnect Australia Volunteer Awards. This well-deserved recognition highlights Josh’s remarkable dedication, unwavering commitment, and lasting impact on the students he works with.

Since 2007, Josh has been a valued learning support and mentor volunteer with EdConnect, building strong, trusting relationships with students and becoming an integral part of the Vasse Primary School community. His enthusiasm, patience, and calm approach create a nurturing environment, particularly for students working on developing their reading skills.

Josh’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. He was nominated for this prestigious award by multiple staff members, who describe him as a true “Champion.” They praise his genuine enjoyment, patience, and kindness, which shine through in every interaction with students.

EdConnect Area Manager, Karen Barden, commended Josh’s positivity, saying, “Josh is a phenomenal volunteer and supporter of EdConnect. He demonstrates a positive attitude every day and is always happy, outgoing, and approachable. He loves being part of the school environment, encouraging students to grow and succeed.” Karen also highlighted Josh’s remarkable resilience, noting that as a legally blind person, he is an inspiring role model to everyone who knows him.

This recognition is not just a celebration of Josh’s dedication, but a testament to the profound impact volunteers like him have in our schools. EdConnect Australia is proud to honour Josh’s contribution, as his work exemplifies the power of learning support and mentoring.

The EdConnect Australia Volunteer Awards are held annually to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of volunteers who support primary and secondary students across Western Australia. These volunteers are the backbone of EdConnect, and their work makes a significant difference in the lives of countless students.

We congratulate Josh on this well-deserved award and thank him for his ongoing commitment to helping young people thrive at Vasse Primary School and beyond!

EdConnect volunteers work in local schools with young people who might otherwise struggle to realise their potential in school and in life. Last year, EdConnect Australia celebrated 25 years of helping students thrive.
