In Week 6 Vasse Primary was honoured to host an international visitor. Ibu Rinda is from our partner school in Samarinda, Kalimantan. She joined us to share her language and culture and teach Year 3 – 6 Indonesian classes. Ibu Rinda spoke about her school, her city, and her island.
Ibu Rinda answered students’ questions about living in Indonesia and introduced classes to songs, dances games, and samples of food. In return, students recommended trying Australian foods such as Vegemite scrolls, Lamingtons, and fish and chips. Year ‘6s also demonstrated Australian sports for her such as cricket and AFL and students were keen to have her watch them playing basketball and water polo.
Vasse Primary students were excited to learn from a native Indonesian speaker and still have many questions for Ibu Rinda and her students. We look forward to exchanging letters and video messages with Ibu Rinda and her students to practice our Indonesian Language in the future.
We are so grateful to have this opportunity through our membership in the Australia-Indonesia Bridge School Partnership Program supported by the Asia Education Foundation and the Australian Federal Government.
